Los Angeles, CA – Gemelli Films today announced that its debut film written and directed by Candice Cain, the college comedy “What Happened Last Night”(WHLN), will be distributed on home entertainment in North America by GVN Releasing in conjunction with E-T Pictures through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Slated for national theatrical release by Gemelli in all major markets on November 4, WHLN depicts the hilarious plight of two strangers who wake up together and then piece back their night in the style of a flashback. It was produced by an all-female production team at Cain’s Gemelli Films. The movie features a large and diverse ensemble cast, with 18 women in principal roles including Amber Rose.
“After completion of our national theatrical release we are delighted to pass our movie to GVN for home entertainment distribution. Our little independent movie has gone from baby steps to playing in the big leagues. Getting a distribution deal with GVN Releasing and E-T Pictures is beyond gratifying and exciting. It is a tremendous recognition of the work of the talented cast and crew, “said Cain.
WHLN has been a darling on the film festival circuit, racking up award after award. At the recent 2016 Hudson Valley International Film Festival where 110 films were featured, WHLN was honored with three awards for Best Ensemble Cast, Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film (Amber Rose), and the Audience Award. In June, WHLN was awarded Best Feature and Best Cinematographer (Jon Mercer) at the Innovative Film Awards. The film has also screened in the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
Cain notes that WHLN fills a void in the comedy genre with millennials. “It has resonated extremely well with audiences who have seen it so far and we are thrilled that the wide distribution for home entertainment will enable movie goers in all corners and different markets around the country to get a chance to see it”.
